From the principal....

This year will provide many exciting opportunities for our students and staff as we open this new school. We received the occupancy permit in late August and therefore have not been able to conduct tours for parents or students prior to our opening. We plan to show off our school to parents in the near future. As expected, we continue to address minor problems as they arise. We appreciate the flexibility of the students and staff as construction nears completion in a few areas of the school.

This newsletter is dedicated to introducing you to the people of Byrne Creek. The pictures and information provide some background about our teaching staff. We are fortunate to have excellent teachers in a school that offers our students many advantages.

This school, for instance, is the first in Burnaby to have a wireless environment. Each classroom can be used as a computer room to connect to the Internet. The school has media and graphics labs, science superlabs, a dance studio, a weight room, two full-sized gyms, and an artificial turf field. The open, spacious environment is being enthusiastically endorsed by students and staff.

I want to thank the teachers for attending two planning days during the summer. Many have volunteered to coach clubs and teams and supervise extra-curricular events. I would also like to thank Ms. Fujiki for offering to produce the school newsletter.

Finally, thanks as well to the parents for assisting with our PAC last year, and we invite all parents to join us this year. As a new school, we are focusing on literacy and social responsibility. We have planned and continue to plan a variety of further strategies to support these two goals. Parents are an important part of these plans and we look forward to working with you all in support of our students.
