Byrne Creek Secondary is a thriving school that offers a wide range of programs designed to meet the needs of all learners. Opened in 2005, Byrne Creek has achieved a great deal in a short period of time. Most recently, Byrne Creek was awarded the Vision In Action: ASCD Whole Child Award. This international award is presented to the school which displays the greatest commitment to ensuring that its students are healthy, safe, engaged, supported and challenged. Byrne Creek is the first Canadian school to receive this award! We are very proud of this accomplishment and the sense of community that has evolved so positively over the past seven years.

Student achievement is at the heart of our school. We offer a wide range of courses and program options from which to choose, ranging from Advanced Placement studies to Industry Training programs. As a new facility, Byrne Creek Secondary has many features which enhance program options and enrich learning opportunities for students. For example, we have media arts and graphic arts computer labs, science super labs, a dance studio, weight room, two full-sized gymnasiums, an artificial grass playing field, a wireless network, and a Centre for Dialogue.

Byrne Creek is home to a vibrant school community. Each year our Student Government works hard to create school spirit by hosting events at lunch time, dances, and our year-end Bulldog Bash. Students participate in a full athletics program and a wide variety of other sporting, health and physical fitness activities. There are many clubs and councils for students to join. Our Social justice, Amnesty International and UN Clubs regularly participate in video conferences in the Centre for Dialogue with students at many other schools around the world. The Leo Club, which is sponsored by our neighbourhood Lions Club, volunteers for our school and community on a daily basis. Our dynamic Fine Arts program presents music and dance performances, art evenings, and drama productions throughout each school year.

Each September’s school opening is a new beginning for Byrne Creek. We are excited by the opportunities that our school provides for students and families as well as our community. As the only secondary community school in Burnaby, we strive to provide a rich educational program in a safe, caring, supportive and welcoming environment. Byrne Creek Bulldogs are determined, courageous, and committed to H.E.A.R.T. – Honesty, Empathy, Achievement, Respect, and Teamwork.
